It’s day two of press days at the Frankfurt IAA and we’re again reporting from the show halls as more activity continues to happen. This morning Audi AG held a breakfast touting the future of e-tron and also rolled out a few more cars that weren’t on the stand yesterday. Here’s a rundown.
First, on e-tron, Audi revealed specific details about the A3 e-tron. While most technical information is already known on this A3 Sportback plug-in hybrid with 1.4 TFSI range extender, Audi AG board member in charge of Marketing & Sales Luca de Meo did mention that the car will sell for a base price of 37,500 Euros and go on sale in Europe by the spring of 2014. Word yesterday from Audi of America executives suggests the car will be in the USA by early 2015.
As for other A3 Sportback drivetrains in the USA, sources here in Frankfurt tell us that it’s likely we’ll see more. We’d guess TDI will be the top priority, though we’d love to see a 2.0 TFSI, S3 or even RS 3 as well. Time will tell.
Finally, you can usually count on a few new cars that weren’t on the stand for day 1 since the main press presentation is over and there’s no longer need for many chairs and photographer platforms. We noted several and photographed each, though our particular favorite was this red SQ5 with complete Audi Exclusive interior featuring red stitching.
Expect more specific coverage from Frankfurt as we have a moment to breathe. We’re leaving shortly for Neckarsulm and then on to Ingolstadt before departing back for the States on Friday. We’ll do our best to get this up as soon as possible, though we expect the flow of stories stemming from this trip to continue through next week at the very least. In the meantime, check out new photos added to our Audi at Frankfurt photo gallery linked below and to the right.
