Last night Audi released the first few photos and details, not to mention name, of its new Sport quattro Concept. Bound for an intro next week at the Frankfurt IAA in Germany, the car takes a plug-in hybrid version of the RS 7′s 4.0 TFSI V8 and pairs it with a shortened version of Audi’s C-sized MLB platform wrapped in a shape that pulls heavily from the iconic rally-bred Audi with which it shares its name. Following that release last night (12AM German time), Audi also put some additional content on its German market consumer website Audi.de, and this included several new design drawings from the Audi Design Team.

You may remember that the first round of solid teasing of this concept came with an initial collection of drawings from the Audi Design Team. We always find these sorts of releases fascinating – not just because we enjoy looking at the work of Audi’s highly talented design department, but also because some of these drawings reveal additional ideas that were being considered and didn’t make it, or shaping that simply isn’t as obvious in photography as it is when rendered by an artist’s hand.

You may also remember that the car in the first round of drawings was mainly depicted in red. A classic Sport quattro hue to be sure, this actually had us thinking the concept would follow suit. We know red was heavily weighed for the original quattro Concept as well. Quite obviously, last night’s photos show that Audi instead went with a new yellow color called Energy Yellow, but these drawings show that the team also considered painting it a more subtle and classic shade of silver or grey.

We’ll be reporting all week from Germany, including planned visits to Audi’s headquarters in both Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm.
