Audi isn’t exactly new to the superhero scene. Involvement with Iron Man and The Avengers, Wolverine and more have placed the four rings squarely in the lexicon of the modern comic genre. Even still, we were surprised last night to catch an image posted to Instagram by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Clark Gregg including an Audi Q5 and Supergirl.
Pop culture fans of the super hero genre will quickly tell you that Gregg is an established Marvel Comics player and has taken part in movies like Iron Man, Thor, Avengers and more. That he’d be posting a mysterious photo including what looks like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. co-star Chloe Bennet in the same frame with Supergirl (DC Comics’ latest TV show subject) and also seen in the background Deadpool (also a Marvel character but one with film rights not currently held by Disney) set the comic geekosphere ablaze… at least on Instagram.
So what gives? Well, for starters, the very first episode of Supergirl debuted last night on CBS. Obviously, hype and discussion about the show were culminating ahead of its first airing, and Gregg was quick to get in on the action.
Does this mean there’ll be a S.H.I.E.L.D. / Supergirl Marvel/DC collabo? No.
Informed fans were quick to respond that the image shot of Bennet in costume as her character Daisy, Supergirl star Melissa Benoist in costume as Supergirl, as well as what looks like Gregg and Deadpool standing alongside an Audi Q5 was shot during the filming of a recent Dubmash War between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stars and fellow stars from Marvel’s Agent Carter series.
What is a Dubsmash War you ask? Dubsmash is a new video-based app whereby users post video of themselves overtop sounds. Figure it as the social media platform for short quick clips of people lip syncing and mostly being funny.
In a play to raise money for charity recently, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stars and Agent Carter stars started a battle. Fans voted by pledging money to each group’s respective charity. Each level of competition seemed to get more and more extravagant and one video included Benoist as Supergirl set to raise the bar. It also included a Deadpool impersonator and also a much less believable Batman impersonator who was seated in the back of the Q5 in the Dubsmash war.
Alas, the war is over and the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents lost. Not even Supergirl or the Audi Q5 were able to save them. Even still, we’re just learning of it now thanks to Clark Gregg’s Instagram feed. You can also still donate to the charities or watch all of the Dubsmash battle videos HERE.
