Audi Sport has released a collection of new photos of the 2013 spec Audi R8 LMS ultra. As you may know, the R8 LMS is built to FIA GT3 spec for racing series held around the world. It is highly successful and these shots further reveal the car in great detail and, in one case, alongside the roadgoing equivalent R8 V10 plus.
Looking at the R8 LMS ultra alongside the R8 V10 plus, we’re again left wondering why this 2013 spec car does not show key details of the R8 product improvement, most notably the head and taillights. One idea suggested to us by Tarek Ramchani of the Audi Motorsport Blog seems the most likely is the fact that LED headlights are now standard on the updated R8 road car. LED headlights are significantly more expensive than HID headlights and given the amount of headlights a racing team might go through in one year, this would seem to make sense. Interestingly, Audi has displayed an R8 LMS ultra with the updated look on several occasions, including the Geneva Motor Show.
Whatever the case, we’ve added all of these new photos to our 2013-spec Audi R8 LMS ultra photo gallery that can be accessed via links below and to the right.
